Key verse

Jeremiah 17:14
“Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be healed, for you are my praise.”

Application

Here we read of the prophets cry for deliverance.  Jeremiah’s prayer is based on Jehovah’s faithfulness. He knows, only Jehovah can heal and save. This desire for healing and salvation includes moral and spiritual afflictions as well as deliverance from enemies. We need to understand that “sin” is the root sickness of the soul, and because of it, everything has become polluted. Not only that, but you cannot cleanse yourself of this disease called “sin”. Jeremiah 2:22 says “Though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, the stain of your guilt is still before me, declared the LORD GOD.”

You see, this is the reason why Jesus Christ, God Himself, had to come to this world to bring us healing. Only He could do it. King David knew that salvation was only of Jehovah. That is why he wrote in Psalm 51:7 “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” This washing had to come from a different source other than yourself, and the only source it can come from according to scripture is “God” Himself.  Only God can wash us clean and remove our sin. So, this cleansing came through the blood of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:24 says “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

Oh what a glorious God we worship, the one to whom all praise is due, Jesus Christ.  When you cry these words, “Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed”, first and foremost is the healing of “sin” in the soul. Without this healing, all other healing is of no value. It is temporary, and your ultimate salvation is lost. When you have been washed by the blood of the lamb, Jesus Christ, this is when you have received true healing, leading to eternal life.

Many times we long for physical healing, rather than the spiritual healing. Everything in the natural is temporary and is passing away, whereas, everything in the spiritual realm is eternal.  2 Corinthians 4:18 says “as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

It is due to this healing and saving grace of God we must “praise” Jehovah for all His goodness as it says Jeremiah 17:14 “…for you are my praise”. He is our praise because He brought healing to our souls. He is our praise because He brought us salvation. He is our praise because he can bring us physical healing and restoration. He is our praise because it is only through Him; all things are possible. Hallelujah!

Conclusion

In conclusion, may this be the prayer of your life according to Jeremiah 17:14 “Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be healed, for you are my praise.” If you first receive the healing of sin in the soul through the blood of Jesus Christ, then everything else is a bonus, and He is more than able to do the same in the physical just as in the spiritual. Therefore, in all things give Christ Jesus all the praise and glory and honour that He may be the treasure of your life, knowing that it is only through Him that you receive true healing. Amen
