John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
In this Christmas season, we are often caught up with holiday activities, family get-togethers, and exchanging gifts, and so, the ‘reason for the season’ – Jesus Christ ends up at the bottom of our list. Instead, we need to make Christ at the centre of everything we do, and not only through Christmas, but it must be a daily activity.
Revelation 19:13 says “He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.”, Again John 1:1 say “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
In John 1:1, the apostle John is using the Greek Word logos to describe Jesus. Logos means ‘word’; it means the spoken word explicitly. Jesus is the spoken Word according to the apostle John. John is establishing the fact that Jesus is from the beginning, before creation and before time began. The deity of Jesus Christ is being established.
Continuing to read in John 1:3, we see that the Word created all things, saying “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” Again, we are reminded of the fact that Jesus is God, and the Word is part of the Trinity that became flesh and dwelt among us.
We know that God the Father is Spirit. John 4:24 says “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” Next, we know that God’s Spirit is also Spirit. John 3:6 says “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” So then, we are taught that God the Father is Spirit and God’s Spirit is also Spirit. Jesus then is represented as the “word” of God.
Jesus is a member of the Godhead who is responsible for all physical matter. Colossians 1:15-17 says “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Friends, Jesus is the only person of the Godhead who can be seen in a physical sense. We see this throughout the Old Testament and in His coming as the Messiah in the New Testament. Amen! It is this Word that became flesh and dwelt among us. Genesis 1 teaches us that the spoken Word created the world. You see, Jesus is the physical manifestation of God the Father, just as a spoken word is the physical manifestation of our inner thoughts.
This is why Jesus told the disciples in John 14:9 “Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” Jesus perfectly represents the Father’s invisible nature and character. Jesus is the “Word” of the invisible God to His creation.
When we remember the coming of Jesus Christ our Messiah, our Redeemer, let us not forget that He is God and He came as a man into the world to become the perfect sacrifice through whom we can be saved. He died in our place because we can never come to Him by our works. But it is by grace we have been saved through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8).
In conclusion, as you celebrate Christmas take time to remember the mighty creator of all things, the Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us. We have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. He came because, without Him, we would have been lost forever. He came because of His immeasurable love for you and me.
If you do not know Him, seek Him with all your heart, that it may be granted your eyes to be open and you come into relationship with Him so that your sins can be washed clean and that the righteousness of Christ may instead cover you.
John 6:51 says “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
