Jesus is our redeemer and rescuer. This truth is a fundamental reality of our belief in Jesus Christ, and in fact, Jesus is known as the “Saviour” of the world. It is crucial to understand this foundational truth because it will help you to be rooted and founded in Christ Alone. When you comprehend his sovereignty and His power, and His divine work in your life, you will truly rest in Him and allow His will to be fulfilled in your life.
If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and accepted His lordship over your life, then it means that it was only made possible because Jesus rescued you from the power of darkness and brought you into the kingdom of light.
Colossians 1:13-14 says “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
This deliverance is a divine act of God. But what does it mean that Jesus redeems us from the power of Satan? All those who are unsaved and not born again in Christ remain a slave to sin. This slavery is spiritual bondage in which someone cannot break free by themselves. They do not have the power nor the will to remove themselves from the power of Satan. Only a divine work of God can achieve this deliverance.
This bondage to Satan means that you are a slave to all kinds of sin such as idolatry, outbursts of anger, fornication, adultery, jealousy, stealing, lying, murder, disobedience, hate of God, rejecting the precepts of God, etc. Those who are spiritually dead live under the power of the world, the devil, and the flesh. Anyone still in their flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:8 says “Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
Sinners cannot come to Christ because they are under the power of the evil one. They are taken captive by the devil to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:24-26 says “And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.”
The picture being painted here is the powerless spiritual condition of an unsaved person. They are captured as a victim and trapped by the cords of sin. In other words, a slave to sin. There is no hope without a redeemer, without a rescuer, and the only one who can rescue is our Lord Jesus Christ through His sacrificial death on the cross. Hallelujah!
Galatians 1:3-5 says “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Again, Colossians 1:13-14 says “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Jesus Christ is God and Savior of the world. Only Christ and Christ alone can redeem us from the power of Satan. Amen! Only Jesus can set you free. Friends, if you do not know Christ and you are in the clutches of sin. You cannot escape by your strength. The good news is that there is still hope. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ, and He can redeem you from the power of Satan.
Jesus Christ came to set the captive free. Are you captive to alcohol, temptations, drugs, money, lust, pride, and anything else that does not honour and glorify God? Then there is hope for your today, and you can receive freedom.
John 8:31-36 says “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
You see, this is the redemptive power of Jesus. Only Jesus has the power to set you free, and when He does, you will be free indeed. Amen! What a blessing it is for those who are in Christ Jesus. Friends, call upon the name of Jesus, and He can set you free today. This cannot be achieved in yourself or any amount of good works you do. It can only be so if God in His divine sovereignty and grace redeems you out of the darkness and transfer you into His marvellous light. It is an act of God alone. Amen!
God bless.
