Exodus 13:21–22 “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.”
In our life journey, do you sometimes feel like you are wandering aimlessly, not knowing what the future holds? You feel as though God has called you out, yet you do not seem to know the next steps. The Bible teaches us that our God is our guide, and he leads those in a relationship with Him.
In Exodus, God has called the people of Isreal out of slavery from Egypt and is now leading them to the promised land. He did not just rescue them from Egypt and leave them in the desert. Instead, He led, taught, and guided them all along. God spoke through Moses and led the people as He commanded.
The Israelites were under the divine guidance of God, and the people followed by faith. He led them in a pillar of cloud to guide them through the day and at night in a pillar of fire. In fact, it was Christ Himself that was with the people. 1 Corinthians 10:9 says, “We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer.”
Likewise, this same Christ is our guide today. He guides us by His word through His Spirit. Amen! Psalm 119:105 teaches us that His word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path. Again, in John 14:16, Jesus tells us that He will give us another helper to be with us forever. Amen!
Christ will never abandon those who are His. That is why He is called the Good Shepherd. John 10:14 says, “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own knows me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.” Take courage because God is with you. The Lord encourages the people of Israel in Deuteronomy 31:8 and reminds them that it is Himself who goes before them. Therefore do not be afraid or discouraged.
In light of this, I encourage you to trust the Lord to guide you along the path of righteousness (Psalm 23:3). When you do not know what your future holds, take courage, knowing that it is God who has ordained your paths, He is your provider, and all you need to do is to find your peace and rest in Him. May His word guide your path, and may His Spirit give you the grace and strength to have faith in His word and provision. Do not be anxious about tomorrow because your Heavenly Father knows your needs. Instead, seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first, and all these things shall be added to you (Mathew 6:25-34). Amen!
