2 Corinthians 5:18-19 “All this is from God, who through Christ reconciles us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.”

Communion is a time to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ upon the cross for our sins. This remembrance is through our symbolic participation in eating the bread and drinking the juice representing Christ’s body and blood which was sacrificed upon the cross. It is a time to remember that through His sacrifice He rescued us from slavery to sin and death, but also opened up a way for “personal relationship” and reconciling us to God.

Often times we hear the phrase “Christianity is not a religion, it is a personal relationship”. It can be a statement that may be overused but we need to take time to really think about this truth. The fact that we can have relationship with God is a glorious truth. The death of Jesus Christ upon the cross made way for this. We often think about Bible Characters who had a close encounter and walk with God. We often wish that we could have had something similar. We think of Enoch walking with God, we think of Moses talking to God, we think of the disciples surrounding Jesus and many many others.

Friends, today we have something far greater and it has been made possible through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Not only do we have Jesus dying on the cross for our sins and justifying us, making us right with God through a heavy price paid, but He has also freely poured out His Holy Spirit on us. And in doing so each of us has become the temple of the living God. Because of the cross you are always with Christ, because He is in you and you in Him. He works in you and through you for the glory of our Father in heaven.

So, the question then remains, how is your walk with God? We have the greatest gift, yet how are you responding to Him who lives within you. God’s desire is for you to walk with Him and Him with you. This is because of His love for you. Are you spending time in the word of God, Are you spending time in personal prayer and allowing the Holy Spirit to teach you the ways that you should go and listening to His counsel? Are you spending time glorifying Him and praising Him for all that He is? As you walk with Him, and talk with Him and sit with Him and go about your daily business, how much of a part of that is Christ?

I encourage you today to have a deep communion with God and a deep desire for having communion with Him – make having a personal relationship with Christ a reality in your life. It’s an amazing Journey and He gave everything on the cross that you and I could have this great privilege to be called sons and daughters of God.  When we begin to work on our relationship with God, then we can also fulfill the ministry of reconciliation in us and in turn take this message of hope and relationship with God to a world that needs saving and needs reconciliation to Christ our Lord and God. Amen.

Let’s pray and partake of the emblems.

God Bless.
